BEyond expectations • BRANDING PROJECT

Beyond Expectations is a broad but structured branding system that encourages teens to create their own identities. Teens would be rewarded with more customization and interaction options as they further engaged with the museum.

    • Promote teenage membership at the museum
    • Encourage teens to strengthen themselves through education
    • Help teens explore the museum with mobile device usage

    Personal Challenge

    • Help teenagers create a positive sense of personal identity
    • Successfully change the name of the program from H.A.N.G. (Houston Art New Generation) to something a less panderous

    CREDITS Concept help: Kaitlen perkins

I created the faux Antennae Vertex brand identity to exhibit a passion to avoid Earth over-population by way of space exploration.

    • Create an identity for a simulated organization
    • Use biomimicry as inspiration for design elements
    • Create an item of clothing for a fictitious fundraising gala

    Personal Challenge

    • Identify a futuristic but potentially problematic situation
    • Create a stop motion video

The European Hornet was chosen because of their inability or disinterest in expanding and exploring from their current setting, a position that is becoming increasingly paralleled in society's outlook towards space exploration.

    Paper Scarf

The branches are meant to represent the internal structure of wasp wings

Created mostly from recycled newsprint, the fashion scarf was meant to mimic the use of paper pulp in the building of Wasp nests

Lyrics were taken from U2's The Fly and inspiration from Godspeed You! Black Emperor's Lift Your Skinny Fists Like Antennas to Heaven

CULTURAL FICTION • BOOK design and creation

I created a horizontal coffee table book based on three conceptual section that parallels Architect/Watercolorist Steven Holl's process: Inception, Luminescense, and manifestation

    • Create an engaging and artistic coffee table book
    • Base it on the architect Steven Holl
    • Feature at least two essays

    Personal Challenge

    • Build an understanding in the viewer in regards to Holl's interest in creating buildings that reside contextually within their physical and mythological environments

The horizontal format of the book alludes to Holl’s famed “Horizontal Skyscraper.” In addition, local culture, mythologies and surrounding landscapes helped to develop project concepts.

I created a teaching tool kit to help students learn about the Postmodern movement in Graphic Design

    • Use photography, typography and text to educate students about the abstract and loose connection between symbols and the objects they signify

    Personal Challenge

    • Study the style and attempt to mimic graphic design's deconstructivist movement
    • Find a personal understanding of Post Modernism
    • Reject my personal notions of what I believed to be aesthetically pleasing and legible to arrive at a solution that pays homage to the movement
The use of an information wheel, definitions, study cards, and a cd including a presentation, helps convey the more practical elements of the movement.
